Why Structure Matters
Without a plan, most guitarists noodle around for 30 minutes and learn nothing. A structured routine ensures you hit every skill area and make measurable progress.
The 30-Minute Breakdown
Minutes 1–5: Warm-Up
Chromatic exercises (1-2-3-4 pattern) slowly. Even pressure, clean notes, alternate picking.
Minutes 5–12: Chord Practice
- Pick 3 chords to work on.
- Strum, check clarity, release, repeat 5x each.
- Switch between each pair, 10 switches per pair.
Minutes 12–18: Scale Work
- Minor pentatonic in one position, ascending and descending.
- Metronome at 60 BPM. Add 5 BPM when clean 3x in a row.
Minutes 18–28: Song Practice
- One section of a song at half speed.
- Play it perfectly 3 times, then increase tempo.
Minutes 28–30: Cool Down
Play something you know well. End on a win. Note what went well and what needs work.
